Curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist with Francesca Giacomelli, this major exhibition will celebrate the life and work of Enzo Mari, an Italian designer whose work have inspired generations of creatives around the world. This retrospective which debuted at Triennale Milano in 2020, will span Mari’s 60-year career and bring together hundreds of his projects, ranging from furniture, children’s books and games, product and graphic design, to more conceptual installation-based works.

REBOOT: Pioneering Digital Art
‘Reboot’ is a large-scale exhibition on early digital art from the Netherlands, featuring key works from 1960 to 2000 alongside new interpretations by contemporary makers. With focus on the influence of digital technology on art and society, central themes are identity and beauty in a digital world, the impact of major tech companies and the fusion of human and machine.

Advertising India’s Sandalwood Film Industry
Since 1971, a printer known as Ramachandraiah has been running a small shop in Bangalore with his son, Raju, the shop’s resident artist. Using a lithographic press built in 1901, they create striking movie posters for single-screen cinemas across the city, often copied directly from the movie’s official promotional material. Featuring bold colours and charming hand-drawn images of the film’s stars, these posters encapsulate the essence of South Indian Kannada cinema.

Quasi: Experimental Writing Systems
At the intersection of typography, linguistics, and fiction, the exhibition approaches the invention of writing systems as a speculative process and an exercise to discover new quasi-realities within our systems of communication. This practice reveals a fascination with otherness where mythology and utopia are recurring themes. Through this exploration, ‘Quasi’ contributes to an ongoing dialog about re-worlding, imagination, and the importance of playing with language to foster linguistic diversity that can reshape our collective narrative.

Mudlarking: Unearthing London’s Past
The highlight of the exhibition is a complete alphabet of Doves Type from The Doves Press, a private printing press joint-founded by Emery Walker and T. J. Cobden-Sanderson in the first decade of the twentieth century – the first time a full set of Doves Type has ever been exhibited. Until recently, the pieces lay at the bottom of the River Thames, following a spectacular falling out between the Press’s founders. The exhibition also includes other mudlarked finds, including fossils, prehistoric flint tools, Roman coins and pottery, Medieval pilgrim badges, Tudor fashion accessories, seventeenth-century children’s toys, Georgian personal adornments and Victorian curiosities.

The exhibition of the artist’s recent work explores the foundational relationship between modernity and death on conceptual and material levels. The ICA’s main gallery features Dean’s Abattoir, U.S.A.!, a site-specific film installation with immersive 8-channel sound. The animated film traverses the interior of an empty slaughterhouse. The film is mimicked in the ICA’s gallery through physical echoes of the virtual space. Composer Evan Zierk’s accompanying score samples field recordings, cinematic instrumentals, algorithmically generated sound, as well as a familiar pop cover.

Using a mismatched set of nineteenth-century wood block letters, Jack Stauffacher reimagined type as abstract form; his experiments in inking and layering led to an extraordinary body of unique monoprints. This exhibition explores the iconic Bay Area printer’s playful, rarely seen work, and includes more than 100 prints, sketches, iterative proofs, and other experiments to help us understand his creative process.

Exhibition of a series of small booklets with poetry opposing the Nazi propaganda between 1943 and 1945, written and designed by Curt Bloch. Presented will be all 95 original issues of the Het Onderwater Cabaret, accompanied by insight into the production of their covers, which Bloch adorned with photomontages put together using materials from newspapers and magazines at his disposal.

Miniature Masterpieces: 100 Years of Irish Stamps
Stamps provide a unique perspective on how we see ourselves and how we wish to be seen. Designed originally to show prepayment of postage, the humble stamp gradually became much more than a receipt as it transformed into an object of rare artistry, a symbol of nationhood and a miniature ambassador that quietly represents nations and their peoples throughout the world.
On display are 760 original Irish stamps, along with artwork, design proofs, printing plates, and other materials.

Saul Leiter: An Unfinished World
This is the largest exhibition of Saul Leiter’s work to take place in the UK, featuring 171 photographs alongside a selection of over 40 of Leiter’s lesser-known paintings. Leiter photographed every day for sixty years, keenly observing daily life and discovering beauty on the streets of the East Village neighbourhood where he lived his entire adult life and which became his enduring subject. The exhibition is curated by Anne Morin, co-produced by the Rencontres d’Arles and DiChroma Photography, Madrid with the collaboration of the Saul Leiter Foundation, New York.

Give Me a Sign: The Language of Symbols

Collection Insights: Seven Perspectives
An exhibition exploring seven views on organising a collection. The seven perspectives have to do with analogue and digital design methods, virtual objects and provenance research, key figures in the history of Swiss graphic design and design in the public space. Taking these as its starting point, Collection Insights will examine selected objects in the collection from different angles and explore how the museum’s collecting, exhibiting, and educational activities are interconnected.

Led by letters – circular creativity in type and lettering
A lecture by Letter Exchange with lettering, illustration and type designer Jamie Clarke. From his Bristol-based studio, Jamie Clarke designs illustrative lettering projects alongside contemporary typefaces. Balancing these two distinct disciplines, has led him to discover an endless cycle of fresh ideas and new opportunities as well as giving him freedom that comes from switching between activities. In his talk, Jamie will show how his approach to drawing letters developed and explain how his two specialities interconnect and influence each other.

A lecture by Letter Exchange with Arabic calligraphy artist and instructor Mahmoud Mostafa. Łódź Design Festival (ŁDF) is a pioneering event, organized since 2007 by the Łódź Art Center foundation, supporting the development of the Polish creative sector, attracting both designers, producers, and distributors, and recipients not professionally related to this topic but who love good design. The upcoming eighteenth edition of the Łódź Design Festival takes the slogan ‘Comfort’ as the central exploration point, showing how contemporary design responds dynamically to the changing needs of society.

The calligraphy and lettering of W. A. Dwiggins
A lecture by Letter Exchange with calligrapher, typographer, design historian and educator Paul Shaw. The talk will be an overview of the calligraphy and lettering of American graphic designer W.A. Dwiggins (1880–1956) from his roots in the Arts & Crafts movement to Art Deco-influenced lettering and idiosyncratic scripts. Paul Shaw has been researching, writing about and lecturing on the life and work of W.A. Dwiggins since 1977.

Typographic Printing Program in Switzerland with Dafi Kühne is an all-round 2-week intensive summer program in Switzerland for international graphic design enthusiasts. The workshop’s goal is to bridge the gap between analog design and production tools and professional contemporary typographic posters. The participants will go through a number of analog tasks to experience the layout qualities of simple type-only layouts. All the experiments and layout exercises will be realized with traditional letterpress printing presses and physical type. Through this very slow but accurate analog process, the participants will learn to put emphasis on concept and micro typography.

An exhibition at Le Signe in Chamount gathers posters of 20 designers and 14 students, who took on a challenge to echo the work of Marcel ‘Jacno’ Jachnovitch (1904-89). Jacno (see Eye 79 and Eye 86) was a prolific French graphic and type designer known for Chaillot typeface, the NPT logo or the winged helmet on the Gauloises cigarettes packaging among others. Visitors can view the works from Sarah Boris (see Eye 101), Bureau 205 (see Eye 90), Anette Lenz (see Eye 101), Anja Lutz (see Eye 37), Michel Lepetitdidier and many others.

Philip Sayer: A journey through East Anglia
A digital exhibition presenting an extended series of photographs taken by Philip Sayer between 2005 and 2023 within a thirty-mile radius of his Norfolk home.
Through Sayer’s lens, the viewer is transported into a richly atmospheric vision of the region as an impressive sequence of images that sweep across its varied terrain. In his distinctive style – developed over the course of a professional photography career that spans six decades – deep darks meet fluctuating patches of vibrant light and between them a dynamic interplay of bold contrasts emerges.

The 39th Graphic Design Exhibition of the Turkish Graphic Designers Association
This year the annual GMK Graphic Design Exhibition, a recollection of graphic design in Turkey since its debut in 1981, is being held online. The GMK Graphic Design Exhibition Digital Archive will also be publicly accessible in the coming months, displaying this recollection and allowing closer examination of the work and shifting tendencies in Turkish design over the past 39 years.

Soho Photography Quarter is a permanent new outdoor cultural space, presenting the very best of contemporary photography, for free. The presentations will feature a significant art frieze in the main square, large-scale over street banners, plus moving image projections, soundscapes and other interactive works depending on the project.

Barbara Kruger, Untitled (Questions)
MOCA has reinstalled the monumental wall work by Los Angeles–based artist Barbara Kruger, Untitled (Questions) (1990/2018). The emblematic red, white, and blue artwork was originally commissioned by MOCA in 1989 for the exhibition A Forest of Signs: Art in the Crisis of Representation, and was last installed in 1990 on the south wall of MOCA’s building.
